FitPro member Euan Mutch shares his inspiring journey through struggle and recovery to building his own fitness movement, and community through fitness in menopause
I grew up in the care system, moving through many schools, never finding stability, never really knowing where I fitted in. From a young age, I felt lost in life. That sense of not belonging followed me into adulthood and it took me down some very dark paths. Addiction, depression, self-doubt – they became part of my everyday existence.
I know what it’s like to feel like you’re at rock bottom, to wake up and wonder if life will ever change. For years I lived in that place, drifting, fighting battles that nobody else could see. I thought there was no way out.
But the truth is, there is always a way out.
The turning point
For me, the turning point was fitness. At first it was just a way to cope, to release some of the energy and pain I carried. But slowly, I realised it was much more. Training gave me structure, discipline and something I hadn’t felt in a long time – hope.
I decided to take a leap. With the support of my wife, I started with Level 2 Gym Instructor, then progressed to Level 3 Personal Trainer. For the first time in my life, I felt genuine confidence in what I was doing. The courses were brilliant – tough at times but they gave me knowledge, skills and, most importantly, belief.
From there, doors started to open. I gained CIMSPA Personal Trainer Practitioner (MCIMSPA) status and became a FitPro Professional Member. These weren’t just pieces of paper – they were milestones on a road I never thought I’d walk. They showed me that even someone who once felt worthless could become a recognised professional.
Education changed me
Once I started learning, I couldn’t stop. Each course gave me another piece of the puzzle, another tool to help not only myself but others too:
- Life Coaching Certificate – helping people set goals, believe in themselves and create change.
- Mentoring and Coaching Skills – giving me the ability to guide others through challenges.
- Counselling Skills & Mental Health Champion Diploma – teaching me to listen, support and understand.
- Mental Health Awareness – helping me identify struggles and create safe spaces.
- Addiction Counselling & Drug and Alcohol Awareness Diploma – deeply personal for me, as someone who’s been there.
- ADHD Awareness – building understanding for people who feel different, like I once did.
- First Aid for Mental Health – because safety and care come first.
- Battle Ropes Essentials & Advanced Training Systems (pyramids, drop sets, suspension training) – giving me powerful fitness tools to use in my sessions.
- Exercise Strategy for Perimenopause to Post Menopause – this one changed everything.
A personal lesson: My wife’s menopause journey
The reason I took the menopause course with FitPro wasn’t just for professional growth – it was personal.
Watching my wife go through menopause opened my eyes. I saw her struggles, the changes she faced, and I realised how little most men truly understand about what women go through during this time. It made me want to be better, to support her properly.
That course gave me knowledge about exercise, nutrition and lifestyle strategies for perimenopause and post-menopause. But more than that, it gave me empathy. It showed me that support from partners is vital and it inspired me to help not just my wife, but other women too.
Today, I run outdoor bootcamps where women feel empowered, supported and strong. They aren’t just about fitness – they’re about laughter, confidence and self-love. I see women realising their power, often for the first time in years, and that’s something I’ll never take for granted.
I’ve applied the practical considerations from the Exercise Strategy for Perimenopause to Post Menopause course into every session – adapting intensity, adding longer warm-ups and mobility work, and focusing on strength, flexibility and functional movements to ease aches and pains. Recovery and hydration are always encouraged. Most importantly, I keep sessions fun and full of laughter, which has been key to building confidence, motivation and lasting results.
Thanks to the brilliant FitPro Perimenopause to Post-Menopause course, I’ve been able to deliver strategic, targeted exercises that really maximise the benefits for the ladies taking part. The group is growing week by week, and so is the confidence, fitness and community spirit.
Building New Mindset New Power
From my journey, New Mindset New Power was born. It’s more than a business – it’s a movement.
I run outdoor bootcamps at 5am, football fitness sessions with local clubs and one-to-one training for people who need that extra push. But, beyond the workouts, it’s about community. It’s about creating a safe space where people can leave their struggles at the gate and focus on becoming the best version of themselves.
I’ve worked with men battling addiction, women navigating menopause, young people looking for confidence and footballers wanting to get fitter. Every single one of them teaches me something and every single one of them reminds me why I do this.
The dream
My dream is bigger than just bootcamps. I want to build a hub – a place where kids in trouble, like I once was, can find stability, guidance and belief. A place where women can train and feel supported through life’s challenges. A place where men can break free from addiction and find purpose again.
It won’t just be a gym. It will be a safe haven. A community. A family.
The message
I grew up lost, spent years fighting addiction and depression, and never believed I had a future. But through fitness, education and the unwavering support of my wife, I rebuilt myself.
Now I dedicate my life to helping others do the same.
Because no matter how lost you feel, no matter how many times you’ve fallen, it’s never too late to change your story.
