Covering five elements of logical business topics, The Business Acumen Planning and Skills course helps bring real life practical context to commercial theory. Each module has online video lectures, course materials, working documents and templates, along with knowledge checks to reinforce the concepts delivered. The final business document provides a place to articulate a working business plan using elements from within the learning.

Long standing business theories have been given a new lease of life with simple to understand models, concepts and resources that focus on applying business practice rather than simply imparting commercial principles.

We discuss Vision, The Marketing Process, Clients, Products and Services, Financial Consideration and Promotion and Sales. The models and resources are being used in the working commercial world, they are not just confined to this course; they are practical and easy to use and can be revisited at any stage of the business lifecycle.

Aims and objectives of course:

  • To give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to make better decisions in the ‘set up’ phase of business.
  • To give learners the understanding of how to work through commercial theories to aid in setting up a new business.
  • To bring context to course content, so that theories can be applied to create a business summary document with clear information and action plans.
  • To provide ‘done for you’ financial models, that aid learning outcomes and support future business operations.
  • To give an understanding of how to create a promotional plan that is clearly linked to the overarching commercial plan.

Paul Dorkings

Working in the Active Leisure Sector since 2002, Paul has filled various roles from Sales Consultant to Managing Director, with a track record of success, guiding 2 companies through successful acquisitions totalling over £33 million.

With a passion for the active leisure sector and the vocational education markets Paul also works as a Non-Executive Director and Senior Exec Member for companies both in the UK and the US.

As the Co-founder of ‘Your Guardian’, Paul has supported a number of startups, SME’s and larger organisations with their overall business practise, however predominantly focusing on frontline sales and marketing strategy.



Dave Christophi

With a strong commercial background in helping companies achieve significant growth phases, through to buy out, strategic development and budget planning, Dave is a senior board executive with over 30 years’ experience in operational proficiency.

The Co-founder and Executive Director of ‘Your Guardian’ and ‘The BodyMapper’, Dave has a wealth of front-line exposure at the helm of vocational training institutes within the Active Leisure sector, supporting Start-ups and SMEs to achieve success and drive engagement through innovative education.

Initially serving 14 years in the RAF before embarking on a career within Education Management, Dave has helped to prepare and steer two private UK Training Providers through successful acquisitions, totalling over £33,000,000, as well as a career in Australia for Next Gen Health & Lifestyle Clubs.

A keen sportsman and family man, Dave’s love of sport, operational background, and sheer desire to help others succeed, has also led him to roles as Non-Executive Director on the board of England Touch Association, Committee Secretary for the RAF Servicing Commando & Tactical Supply Wing Association and Champion within Koi Sports CIC international ‘Power of 5’.
