He shares his views on the need for authenticity, showing up when it’s tough and keeping sessions fun.

My wife Tracy inspired me because I saw menopause close up. I didn’t just learn it from a course – I saw the emotional changes, frustration, tiredness and loss of confidence. FitPro’s education helped me understand the science, but Tracy helped me understand the person.

In my opinion, male education around menopause should be part of training. Husbands, partners, sons and male coaches need to understand it better. Together with confident and caring coaching, that understanding can change homes, relationships and training environments.

It’s not just training – it’s the whole environment. In my sessions, we dance, stretch, sing, laugh, talk and build real friendships. I speak to the women before and after sessions about everything – confidence, life, how they feel and what they are going through. The group chat keeps that support going outside the sessions too.

This is my New Mindset New Power movement. It is alive – and so is every woman connected to it. What started with one woman, my wife Tracy, has grown into over 50 women in nine months, training both outdoors and inside the gym. They trained right through the winter – dark nights, rain, snow and wind – and there was no stopping them. This is not just fitness. It is confidence, friendship, resilience and women feeling alive again.

Showing up, even when it feels tough

What has bolstered me when it’s been difficult is authenticity, structure, responsibility and my training methods delivered with love, care and understanding.

I show up because I know what it feels like not to. I’ve lived through addiction, low confidence, low self-worth and the fight to rebuild yourself. What changed was structure and discipline. I stopped waiting to feel ready and started building a life where showing up became non negotiable.

My training methods come from that place. It’s not just reps and sets – it’s battle ropes, slam balls, press-ups, fitness testing and group check-ins used to release pressure, build belief and create a new mindset.

I believe I created a movement by making women feel seen, understood, safe and part of something bigger than a fitness class. Mothers train with daughters. Friends bring friends. Women who had never trained outside or stepped into a gym are now doing both. To me, that is a movement.

Authenticity

Being authentic means to stop performing and start telling the truth through how you coach. Clients can feel copied energy, copied programmes and fake motivation. For me, authenticity came when I stopped trying to be what I thought a PT should be and started coaching from what I had actually lived.

I’ve lived addiction, fear, low confidence and rebuilding from nothing. That doesn’t make me better than anyone – but it makes me honest.

My advice to other fitness professionals is simple: learn your craft, stay in your scope but bring your real self into the room. Your clients don’t just need a programme – they need to feel that you care, that you understand and that you are willing to stand with them while they change.

The vision is bigger than the sessions

I feel like I have waited all my life for this.

From childhood, I experienced abandonment and turmoil, and I never had guidance. I learned to survive, to work things out myself and to keep going without asking for anything. That built something in me. It was hard but it gave me lived experience – and nothing is more powerful than lived experience when it is used properly.

My tattoos tell my life story – from childhood abandonment and chaos, to freedom, recovery and rebirth through my business, New Mindset New Power (NMNP). It is branded on my body to remind me where I have been and how recovery through fitness keeps me humble, focused and deeply connected to all of it. NMNP is not just a brand to me – it is part of who I am now.

Continuing professional development

At 57, I now have my own company, my own brand and a movement I am proud of. New Mindset New Power is helping women across the community – women going through menopause, women rebuilding confidence, women who feel lost and women who want to feel alive again.

I never really had guidance growing up, coming through the care system, so having the support from FitPro genuinely means a lot. I am a survivor and, since being involved with FitPro, people have started reaching out to me for my story and for support around fellow survivors, which means a great deal to me.

Investing in education through FitPro has allowed me to deliver at a deeper level, build trust quickly and grow my business through real results, testimonials and word of mouth. It has given me the confidence to coach within my scope while expanding what I can offer safely and professionally.

It is getting noticed but I stay humble. Every day I plan, learn and build. I won’t stop at anything to grow this and help more people.

Running the sessions

I tell my participants this is their hour – one hour away from kids, husbands, work, stress and everything else. It is their time to release, enjoy themselves, think about themselves and be around like-minded women who understand what each other is going through.

A big part of the session is the atmosphere. They talk, laugh, share ideas and support each other. I also share small bits of education from the FitPro courses in a simple way they can relate to, especially around menopause, confidence, movement, strength and looking after themselves.

The exercises all have meaning. With pads and drills, we laugh about who is the angriest. They call me names during the hard bits and I just say, “Thank you, I understand – it’s OK.” That humour breaks barriers and lets them work harder without feeling judged.

Battle ropes are used to release tension. Slam balls are used to let go of frustration – I encourage them to put real energy into it and it brings more effort out of them in a safe, fun way. Very few could do press-ups at the start but, as a group, they are now doing them. Sit-ups, shuttle runs, ropes, balls, bodyweight work – it is all delivered with laughter, energy and release.

At the end, we chat, breathe, calm down and I high-five every single person, including my wife. It has become a family now – they call it that themselves. The majority barely miss a session because it works for them.

All the ladies now have their NMNP hoodies and one of them even got my NMNP badge tattooed because she said I changed her life. I told her, “Lisa, you turned up and did the work. I just do what I do because I care.” That probably sums the whole thing up.

Lisa has told me that, thanks to the sessions, her self-esteem is back. She says, “I feel so much better mentally and physically. NMNP has really helped me transform my life, my mindset and my goals. NMNP has created a community consisting of genuine support, empathy, no judgement and pushes you to become the best version of yourself, not just for now but for life.”

This all started because I educated myself through FitPro and wanted to understand my wife’s struggles better. From that, this whole women’s movement has grown.

People come for more than a workout

I’ve learned to stop chasing perfect and start helping people properly. Learn your craft. Stay in your scope. But don’t forget – people don’t come to you just for a workout. They come for confidence, structure, support and a way forward.

If you can combine education with real-life understanding, you don’t just change bodies – you change lives.

Discover FitPro’s CPD course on Exercise Strategy for Perimenopause to Post Menopause

Euan Mutch

Euan Mutch is founder of New Mindset New Power.
