Fitness First to get the UK "strictly fit" as TV dance show comes to a class near you
Health club chain Fitness First has teamed up with BBC celebrity dance contest Strictly Come Dancing to create Strictly FIT, a new group exercise class.
Making the most of the current public interest in TV dance shows and talent contests, the new programme will be offered by the chain to both members and non-members alike.
The classes use moves from dances like the cha cha cha, waltz, quickstep, salsa and jive and have an emphasis on aerobic moves and a low-impact workout. Routines are set to music from the TV show.
It’s a trend that’s equally affecting the fitness industry as well as the public, with commentators such as Pete Cohen predicting the growth of dance-based exercise programming among fitness professionals earlier this month.
Fitness First’s UK managing director, John Gamble, said: “The nation is already gripped by BBC TV’s Strictly Come Dancing and now we can offer everyone the chance to get involved – and get fit at the same time. We are expecting this to be the most popular class we have ever launched in the UK.’’
