17-19 April 2009

What a weekend! This April more than 1400 fitness professionals witnessed a unique line-up of international presenters as the country's biggest fitness gathering broke new ground for 09.

Olympic coach Charles Poliquin, Israel's leading fitness instructor Yoav Avidar plus the top names in fitness management (Robert Cappuccio and Nic Jarvis for starters) shared stages and lecture halls across host venue Loughborough University. For the first time, the annual convention was equally weighted across Group Ex and Personal Training - creating a whole new community space and a great atmosphere.

The headline speakers provided some of the convention's best moments. After attending his inspiring opening address, those who made it to Paul Chek's lectures gained an insight into the scientific approach to rotational and Swiss ball training, and caught a glimpse of Paul's particular brand of fitness magic.

Boxer David Haye then spoke of his journey from Bermondsey to the world stage as undisputed cruiserweight champion. Haye and trainer Adam Booth also presented Outbox™, the revolutionary boxing skills course for fitness professionals - the same skills David will use to become the heavyweight champion of the world on June 20. Some lucky devils even received one-to-one coaching with "The Hayemaker" himself!

A loud and lively weekend was kicked off by Les Mills programme demos together with the trade show, including free nutrition samples from Lucozade and fitness analysis from adidas in the high-tech adiTOUR arena. The health and fitness management day, lectures, workshops, kids and aqua sessions and classes by the likes of YMCAfit, GRAVITY®, Paco Gonzalez, Jo Parry and Robert Steinbacher provided a comprehensive insight into everything fitness professionals need to know, from exercise technique to client management and business development.

Jayne Nicholls (Group X Training) said: "Hooray for the British presenters! It seems that so many of the UK team have found their niche and each year progress it further and further. The whole dynamic was inspiring."

Not to be all work and no play, the event also scheduled important downtime with a gangsters and molls themed Boogie Night on Saturday. Everyone (including a certain boxer) got well into the spirit of things, looked the part and was even entertained with an impromptu dance-off!
