How do I become a BTS instructor?
BTS Instructors require a level II industry qualification, (which includes a written component of anatomy & physiology), and be insurable to teach group fitness. This qualification could include Exercise to Music or Gym Instructor certificates. For BODYATTACK®, BODYJAM® and BODYSTEP®, Exercise to Music is a pre-requisite.
All BTS programmes are club driven and Instructors must be affiliated to a club that either currently holds an agreement to operate the appropriate programme or has returned their license agreement to BTS. The Instructor must agree with the Studio Coordinator/club that they will train under their designated club banner and will be offered a regular class to teach on completion of the training.
A written confirmation from the club stating that the Instructor will have a regular class on the studio timetable at the venue should be forwarded to the BTS department, before a place on a training course can be confirmed.
Prospective Instructors attend two training modules where they receive training in five key elements of successful instruction: pre-choreography, physical execution, instruction, performance and communication. Competence in all elements is imperative, as excellence will promote an Instructor to an outstanding level.
For up to date information on upcoming BTS training courses please visit our website on

The BTS programmes are recognised worldwide and the certification you receive in the UK allows you to teach at any club in the world that holds the appropriate license.

Can I do BTS classes when pregnant?
Exercising when pregnant raises a number of issues. If it is your first pregnancy we generally recommend that you cease or at least reduce your exercise levels as everyone is affected by exercise differently. Current research shows that in the first trimester (1-3 months), women are more prone to fatigue and stress. The second trimester (4-6months) sees subtle changes in bodyweight and doctors advise waiting until this stage before beginning a new exercise programme. The final trimester (7-9 months) sees a 50% increase in cardiac output and 45% increase in blood volume, and pregnant women are at most risk of falls, due to changes in center of gravity.
The following are contraindications for exercising when pregnant:
Pregnancy-induced hypertension.
Pre-term rupture of membrane.
Pre-term labor during prior or current pregnancy.
Persistent second to third trimester bleeding.
Incompetent cervix.
Intrauterine growth retardation.
Ultimately, the safety of participants is the primary concern. Always speak to the instructor who may then be able to give modifications that will allow participation. Remember, if in doubt seek the advice of your GP or obstetrician.

Can I get a copy of the music for my favourite BTS classes?
Unfortunately, for legal reasons, BTS music is only available to licensed instructors.
Do I have to have an ETM qualification to book on?
Only for BODYATTACK®, BODYJAM® and BODYSTEP®, for the other programmes an NVQ/REP level II exercise qualification is acceptable.
Can I reserve a space on a course?
Unfortunately not. Because we operate a live booking system we book all places on a first come, first served basis. In order to secure a club booking we will require a purchase order with the names of the delegates included. For individual bookings over the phone we will need to have received the letter of reference in the office and credit card details or for postal bookings a letter of reference and a cheque.
What needs to be on the letter of reference?
The letter of reference should include the following or similarly worded text:
"This letter is to confirm that we hold a current license for 'Programme Name' and upon completion of the 'Programme Name' training course will give 'Delegate Name', regular classes at this facility".
This letter should be on club headed paper and be signed by a studio/group fitness coordinator, group fitness/fitness manager or club manager.

How can I get a BTS video for home use?
At present the only DVD'S available for any of the BTS programmes are those specifically designed for the programme instructors. These videos are filmed on the understanding that they will be viewed by individuals certified in Group Exercise Instruction and who hold a recognised anatomy and physiology qualification. The videos are therefore not suitable for home use by the general public. Additionally, copyright is held for the music used in all BTS videos and so prohibits any distribution to non license holders.
