Certification

Certification FAQs

"I have been cleared to shadow teach – what does this mean?"

1. The instructor must submit their shadow video four weeks from their Module 2 date.

2. When they are ready to film their shadow video they must have a minimum of four participants and teach those tracks on their own.

3. They do not need to pay for their shadow video assessment – they will only need to pay their assessment fee when they submit their full video.

4. They must watch their shadow video and fill out the self analysis form.

The shadow clearance means that they must shadow another certified instructor to help them gain experience teaching the programme in a live class situation. They must try teaching those four tracks on their own at every opportunity before they film their video to colleagues and friends.

"When is my video/DVD due in?"

Your video/DVD deadline date is 16 weeks from your Module 2 training date. The FitPro Office must receive your video/DVD by this date.

"Where do I send my video?"

Please address your video to the Certification Department, FitPro, Kalbarri House, 107-113 London Road, London, E13 0DA.

"I'm not going to be able to get my video in on time."

We can offer a one-month extension to your deadline date. You must contact the Certification Team before your deadline date to discuss this and have an extension authorised.

"I only have a 45-minute class."

Video submissions must be a one-hour class showing ALL tracks for the programme. This is required to demonstrate competency to teach the programme and to gain international certification. A 45-minute video/DVD submission will automatically be withheld.

Suggestions:
Extend the length of your class if possible if the studio is not used before or after your class.
Teach a one-off hour-long class at a time when the studio is available, teaching friends and colleagues if necessary.
Use someone else´s one-hour class if available.

"I don't have a class at the moment."

We still need to receive your video by your 16-week deadline date. The club that provided your letter of reference should be able to support you in helping you get your video done.

Suggestions:
Teach a one-off hour-long class at a time when the studio is available, teaching friends and colleagues if necessary.
Use someone else´s one-hour class if available.

"Do I have to use the release I did my module training on?"

It is advisable that you do as this is the release that you will have spent a significant amount of time learning and should be the one that you know best. If you have moved on to the next release within your 16-week period, please use the release that you feel most comfortable with, taking into consideration the Five Key Elements and areas of assessment.

"Can I use more than one release?"

You are able to use a maximum of two different releases. Please provide a track list detailing which release each track is from for your assessor´s information.

"My tape/battery ran out just before the end of the class. Can I still send it in?"

No! The assessment requires that you submit a video/DVD that shows your whole class from the very start (pre-class interaction) to the very end (post-class interaction). You will not be able to pass the assessment if all of the tracks are not included. You will need to record your class again.

Suggestions:
Have a spare tape/battery on hand. We will accept videos/DVDs that include a tape/battery change, but these must be quick and not significantly interfere with the assessment. Please include a note on your self-analysis form for your assessor´s information.
Use mains power supply if possible.

"I can´t find my self-analysis form."

There is a copy in your Training Manual. You can also download it here

"How much is the video assessment fee?"

£30.00 including VAT payable by postal order, purchase order or cheque (to be made payable to Fitness Professionals Education). Please include your name, programme and FitPro membership number. Please DO NOT send cash.

After the video/DVD has been submitted:

"I forgot to send my £30!"

Your video/DVD will not be sent out to an assessor until payment has been received. You can either send your payment (postal order, purchase order or cheque with your name, programme and FitPro membership number) or you can contact FitPro and we can take your card details over the phone.

"Has my video/DVD been received by FitPro?"

If you sent your video/DVD by recorded or special delivery you can check the tracking reference number on the Royal Mail website: see www.royalmail.com. Alternatively, contact FitPro and we will be able to confirm receipt of your video/DVD over the phone.

"When will I receive my results?"

Please allow up to eight weeks for your assessment results to be posted to you. Your results will be sent to you as soon as they have been received from the assessor and our records have been updated. If your video has been with FitPro for longer than eight weeks, please contact the Certification Team.

Resubmission Video FAQs:

"Do I have to use the same music release as my first video/DVD?"

Your assessor may specify a particular release on your assessment. If so, please ensure your video/DVD is on the stated release. Otherwise please use the release you are most familiar with and ensure you are able to demonstrate the Five Key Elements throughout the video/DVD.

"Does my resubmission video/DVD have to be taken from a full class?"

Yes, your video/DVD must be taken from a full class. If your resubmission requires particular tracks then you may stop the recording during your class to only film the required tracks. Please be aware that if you film additional tracks that the assessor has not requested these may be assessed too.

"Do I need to pay for my resubmission video again?"

If your video/DVD was withheld you do not have to pay the assessment fee again. However, if your video was deferred you will need to pay a £30 assessment fee for your full video/DVD resubmission to be assessed. The letter that is sent with your assessment results will state if payment is required.

"Will my resubmission video/DVD go to the same assessor that assessed me the first time?"

Yes, it is important that your video/DVD is sent to the same assessor that watched you the first time. As they assessed your previous video they will look to see that their feedback has been taken on board and that the necessary improvements have been made and are demonstrated in your resubmission video/DVD.
